Background to the Project
The main pool tank was built in 1935 and is made up of three main sections. These three sections are joined together using expansion joints to allow minimal movement when filling and emptying the pool. The pool ranges from 0.9m at the shallow end to a maximum of 2.75m at the deep end. There are a number of slopes that join the diving pit to the gradually shallowing pool. The pool is 50.20m long by 27.40m wide and holds 500,000 gallons of water.
At the shallow end there are five main inlets that feed filtered water into the pool. At the deep end there is one main outlet which sends water back to the plant for filtering and chemical addition. In some places, pool decks are up to 45cm from the water level. In the deep and shallow end, this space contains a wastewater channel to skim the top of the water. Traditional paving slabs surround the pool.
