Current Issues and Problems
Main Pool Tank
- In recent years the main expansion joint at the deep end has cracked. There have been two attempts at repair with different successes. Whereas there was previously only one area of concern in the tank, we now have three.
- The distance between the water level and pool decks is very high and makes it difficult for bathers to climb out of the pool. Not only this, but it is also difficult for lifeguards to remove casualties from the pool.
- Competition standard pools are 50m long and are 25m wide to accommodate eight racing lanes.
Filtration and Water Quality
- All of the water enters at the shallow end and is taken from the deep end. This results in low chlorine levels at the deep end – some areas have such low water movement that they are in fact dead areas of water.
- In the far-left corner of the pool the structure has dropped. This means that it is impossible to get the correct amount of water flowing over the wastewater channels. Not only do these channels receive more water than required, but also they send it to drain instead of back to the plant for filtration.
Surround
- The current concrete surround needs to replaced in order to minimise the chance of accidents occurring.
