Removing the shallow end

To obtain the required depth of water at the shallow end they have to remove the original floor prior to laying the reinforcement rods. The area removed is one third of the pool floor. It is very important that we have at least 0.9m depth at the shallow end. We will gain a little more depth by raising the water level thus reducing the distance between the water level and the pool surround making it easier to climb out of the pool and safer when diving in. However there are many considerations when adjusting water level; we need to consider heritage, safety, pipe work, scum channels and additional fittings such as starting blocks.

Reinforcement rods have now been inserted and tied in place on the original floor of the deep end either side of the dive pit, however it’s still proving to be a long process getting the angles right for the slopes down into the original diving pit.
